Ahmady Named to NCBWA Preseason Second All-America Team

FRESNO, Calif. - The ninth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Athletic pre-2009 All-America Team announced that Bulldog Alan Ahmady has been named Second All-American.
Ahmady played first base and helped the Bulldogs win the program's first NCAA National Title after defeating Georgia in the College World Series Finals. Ahmady and teammate Tommy Mendonca made an amazing double play against North Carolina that ranked No. 1 on Sports Center's Plays of the Day.
Ahmady was one of four Bulldogs to appear in all 78 games last season. He was second in the nation in RBIs with 92 and sixth in the nation in hits with 110. Ahmady ended the season with 13 homeruns, 17 doubles, and a .382 batting average. He also earned First Team All-WAC honors.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-American awards, publication and writing contests.
The College Baseball Blog has named two Bulldogs in the Top 50 Players for 2009. Ahmady was ranked No. 31 and Tommy Mendonca was named No. 44.
