FRESNO, Calif. - Collegiate Baseball announced their Fabulous 40 preseason poll today and ranked Fresno State at No. 16. The Bulldogs received 456 votes.
Last season, the Bulldogs were ranked No. 21 in the preseason poll and finished No. 1 after winning the program's first NCAA National Title.This is the highest preseason ranking since 2002 when the Bulldogs were ranked No. 11. The Collegiate Baseball preseason poll started in 1999.
Louisiana State earned No. 1 honors, while College World Series opponents North Carolina and Georgia were ranked No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Four teams (Oregon, Washington, Hawai'i, and San Jose State) that the Bulldogs face in 2009 received votes, but were not ranked in the Top 40.
The Collegiate Baseball poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
