FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State guard Jaleesa Ross has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her play during the week of February 4-10. This is the second time Ross has received the award this season.
Ross, from Pinole, Calif. (Pinole HS), led the Bulldogs to a pair of wins last week against Louisiana Tech and Utah State. The win at Louisiana Tech marks the first-ever win for Fresno State in Ruston. The two wins help keep the Bulldogs atop the WAC standings.
The first-year guard scored 21 points at Louisiana Tech on 8-of-12 shooting. She also connected on four shots from beyond the arc to help the Bulldogs to the 82-63 victory. Ross followed up the performance at Louisiana Tech with a career-high 24 point effort in a 69-52 win over Utah State at home. She also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and hit seven shots from long range.
On the week, Ross averaged 22.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also hit 16-of-29 shots from the field (.552) and connected on 11-of-20 (.550) shots from beyond the arc.
