FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldog baseball's alumni weekend came to a close after an alumni game and team scrimmage Saturday at Beiden Field.
The baseball team hosted the 21st Annual Double Play Dinner on Friday where the 2008 team was introduced to the Dugout Club and the alums. The dinner also featured the presentation of the 2007 WAC Champion rings to 2007 team members.
Saturday's alumni game ended in a 1-all tie after four innings. Twenty former Bulldogs, including Ben Fritz who pitched the final inning, returned to Beiden Field for the game. Due to new NCAA rules regarding scheduling, the alumni played each other rather than taking on the current team.
The 2008 Fresno State baseball team took the team for an intrasquad game for the weekend's finale. The Red team beat out the Navy team, 8-5.
"In a way, we got more out of the game because we got 18 innings' worth of playing time instead of nine," said head coach Mike Batesole. "All 15 of our position players got some time, which is really good for us."
Pitchers Justin Wilson and Tanner Scheppers got the starts for the Red and Navy teams, respectively. Jason Breckley, Justin Miller, Kris Tomlinson and Jacob Hower all came in on relief.
Tommy Mendonca, Nick Hom, Steve Susdorf and Gavin Hedstrom all picked up home runs in the scrimmage.
The team opens up the regular season Friday with the opener of a four-game series against UC Davis at Beiden Field at 6:05 p.m.
