Bulldogs Open With Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State opens its 2008 season with the UC Davis Aggies, who are coming off a 24-32 campaign a year ago. The two teams are scheduled to battle out a single game Friday, followed by a double-header Saturday and a series finale on Sunday.

Scheppers Ready To Fulfill Preseason Hype
Fresno State pitcher Tanner Scheppers has been a regular in the headlines this preseason, the latest of which is a feature in the latest issue of Baseball America. Baseball America also named Scheppers to its Third-Team All-American list as the 14th-best junior prospect for 2008. Earlier this week, Scheppers was also named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award watch list, one of 75 players nationwide on the ballot for the best collegiate player.
All-WAC Honors Come In Droves For Bulldogs
The Bulldogs return six of the eight position player starters from 2007 and all three of their top starting pitchers to earn the preseason distinction as the WAC favorite for the 2008 season
Bulldogs position players Steve Susdorf, Erik Wetzel, Todd Sandell and Danny Grubb join pitchers Clayton Allison, Tanner Scheppers and Jason Breckley as preseason First-Team All-WAC selections. Susdorf and Allison were also selected as Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
Joining The Ranks Of The Elite
Fresno State enters the season ranked in the top 30 in the three polls currently released. Baseball America (No. 18), Collegiate Baseball (No. 21) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (No. 29) each predict the Bulldogs to make yet another postseason appearance in 2008.
Up next for the Dogs
Following the Bulldogs' season-opening series with UC Davis, the Bulldogs will head south for a five-game roadtrip that will include games with Cal, San Diego, Cal Poly, San Diego State and Santa Clara.
