FRESNO, Calif. - There is never an easy match at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. The Fresno State men's tennis team knew each contest would be a dog fight coming into the weekend. On Friday, the Bulldogs lost a tough 4-2 decision to Wisconsin after rain pushed the match back for several hours.
"Each match is going to be difficult, we just have to convert on the crucial points," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "Give Wisconsin credit, they played us tough. But we will continue to work hard and strive to win every match we play."
Freshmen Siddharth Alapati and Denny Fafek each picked up straight-set victories in singles on Friday. The 'Dogs led 2-0, before Wisconsin rallied to win the last four matches, including the clincher on court No. 2 where Marek Michalicka beat sophomore Mirko Zapletal in three sets.
"We have a very good team," Udwadia said. "We will get better and stay true to our blue-collar work ethic. We're looking forward to Saturday's match against Brown."
The Bulldogs will face Brown on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT (4 p.m. CT) in their final match of the Classic.
