Bulldogs Sweep Doubleheader With 6-1 Victories

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Men's Tennis Team dominated in both of its dual matches today as they defeated Eastern Washington 6-1 and St. Mary's 6-1, at the Wathen Tennis Center. This was the first double-header of the season for the Bulldogs. The 'Dogs were strong in doubles taking the point in both matches.
In the match against Eastern Washington, playing at the No. 3 spot for the Bulldogs A.J. Kerin and Siddharth Alapati won the first doubles match 8-6 giving the 'Dogs the advantage.
Playing at the No. 2 spot in doubles against Eastern Washington, Rudolf Siwy and Taylor Leiby defeated Davis and Millican 8-6 to clinch the doubles point for Fresno State.
Sophomore Mirko Zapletal played at the No. 1 spot for singles and defeated Kyle Schraeder, 6-1, 6-3. Playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, Junior Rudolf Siwy and Sophomore Tejesvi Veerepalli both beat their opponents. Siwy defeated Pannhara Mam 6-4, 6-3, while Veerepalli beat Nico Riego de Dios 6-2, 7-6 (3).
Playing at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots Denny Fafek and Flavio Mollinedo won their matches in straight-sets.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-7 to start the second match of the day against the St. Mary's Gaels.
The 'Dogs continued to stay strong in the second match of the double-header as they won two of the three doubles matches.
Playing in the No. 3 spot for Fresno State, Veerepalli and Mollinedo won the first match against Zannoni and El Bouzkouri, 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for the 'Dogs and playing at the No. 1 spot, Siwy and Zapletal defeated Kusnierz and Tirelli 8-5.
Continuing onto singles the Bulldog's kept the energy high and won five of their matches to win the match for Fresno State.
Playing in the No. 2 spot Siwy defeated Lucas Tirelli 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 3 spot Veerepalli played hard to beat Marek Dvorak 6-4, 7-6. Also controlling their matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, Fafek and Alapati won in straight-sets.
Clinching the match for the Bulldog's, playing at the No. 6 spot, Mollinedo defeated Youssef El Bouzkouri, 6-3, 6-2.
Fresno State improved to 11-7 for the season while the Gaels fell to 12-4 for the season.
