Bulldogs Sweep DePaul, UC Davis in Doubleheader

"We're a deep team, and we showed that today," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "It was a good opportunity for us to get on a roll before we head to UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine this upcoming week."
Fresno State has already reached its win total from last season and has won four-straight matches. The Bulldogs are now 12-1 at home this year.
Fresno State won the doubles point in both matches to build momentum for singles play. Against DePaul, junior Rudolf Siwy and sophomore Mirko Zapletal beat Doerner and Graetz 8-5 to get the Bulldogs off to a good start. At the No. 2 spot, freshman Denny Fafek and sophomore Taylor Leiby took control early and never let up en route to an 8-1 victory over Moncada and Grgec.
Against UC Davis, Siwy and Zapletal were winners again, defeating Garcia and Landes 8-1. Freshman Siddharth Alapati and sophomore Tejesvi Veerepalli clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Amaroli and Liang.
In singles, Siwy got two straight-set victories over DePaul's Austin Doerner and UC Davis' Justin Garcia, respectively.
Fafek also picked up two wins, beating DePaul's Ben Hartman and Nick Lopez of UC Davis. Sophomore Flavio Mollinedo, Veerepalli and Alapati all had singles wins against De Paul.
Leiby was solid in singles against UC Davis, defeating Hunter Lee 7-6, 6-4. Junior A.J. Kerin picked up an impressive victory at the No. 5 spot, beating Tyler Lee of UC Davis 6-2, 6-2.
"A.J. and Taylor hadn't been in the singles lineup for a while, and I was pleased to see the way they stepped up today," Udwadia said.
Zapletal, down early in the first set, rallied to beat Henri Landes of UC Davis 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Martin Nilsson beat the Aggies' Daniel Elefant at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-7, (11-9).
