Baseball Hosts New Mexico State

FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno State baseball team returns to conference play this weekend when they play host to New Mexico State at Beiden Field May 2-4. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m. and all four games can be heard live on 580 KMJ.
Saturday, May 3, is Youth Baseball Day at Beiden Field. All youth eighth grade and under can get in free to the game if they come to the game in their baseball uniform. There are also ticket packages available for the general public for Saturday's doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m. For more information log onto gobulldogs.com
New Mexico State is 9-11 in WAC and 22-25 overall while Fresno State is 26-21 and 14-6 in WAC. The two teams played two weeks ago in Las Cruces, with the Bulldogs sweeping four games. The Aggies did defeat Fresno State 13-8 in Fresno on March 10 in the Pepsi Johnny Quik Classic.
New Mexico State is hitting .301 as a team with Chris Auten hitting .357 with seven homeruns and 42 RBIs. Joseph Scaperotta it batting .307 with 17 homeruns and 58 RBIs. Tyler Sturdevant is the Aggies top pitcher with a 5-4 record and a 4.30 era.
The Bulldogs are led by the play of Alan Ahmady who is hitting a team-best .391 with eight homeruns and 56 RBIs. Erik Wetzel is batting .374 while Steve Susdorf is hitting .346.
Susdorf and Wetzel are climbing their way up the Bulldog record books. Susdorf is second All-Time in RBIs with 183. He needs 18 to break Todd Johnson's record of 200 set from 1990-1993. He is also tied for sixth in homeruns, sits in second in career doubles with 59 and fourth in career hits with 266. Susdorf needs 11 hits to move into third place on the career hit list.
Wetzel is two hits shy of moving into 10th place for career hits and he needs two runs to move into eighth place in career runs. He has recorded 226 hits and 144 runs in three years. The Bulldog second baseman needs five runs to move into the Top 10 for most runs in a single seaseon.
Following the four-game series with New Mexico State, the Bulldogs will travel to Long Beach State for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, May 6. The Dogs will then return home for their final home series against San Jose State May 9-11.
