FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's track and field team will add two Valley runners to the roster for the 2008- 2009 Season. Cody Gragg and David Sanchez of Bakersfield and Farmersville respectively, both signed National Letters of Intent to compete with the Bulldogs.
"We are thrilled to keep Valley athletes in the Valley," said Fresno State distance coach Joe Gonzales.
Sanchez broke Farmersville's records in both distances races over his career. He timed the school's top time in the 1,600 at 4:28.09 and his 9:35.21 is the school record in the 3,200.
Sanchez was named the Tulare County of the Year and a two-time winner at the Tulare County Track and Field Championships on April 18, 2008. More recently, Sanchez won both the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Sequoia Sierra Championships and will advance to the Grand Masters.
The Farmersville runner chose Fresno State over Fresno Pacific and Sacramento State.
Grag, a Bakersfield High School product, championed the 3,200 at the Reedley Invitational on April 25, 2008 with a time of 9:45.33. Gragg has qualified for the Grand Masters.
"We are excited for both runners to join our program," said Gonzales. "Both were good runners in high school with low mileage per week and the added mileage will help them improve at Fresno State."
Gragg chose Fresno State over schools like Long Beach State and other small schools.
Earlier this month the Bulldogs also added Allison Gonzales to the women's team and thrower Justin Cutler to the men's team.
Join the State - Fresno State! The Bulldogs travel to Boise, Idaho, for the WAC Championships May 14-17.
