FRESNO, Calif. - Steve Susdorf continues to garner recognition for his outstanding college baseball career at Fresno State. The most recent recognition came on Tuesday when it was announced that Susdorf was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
This is the first time Susdorf, who is a three-time Academic All-District member, has garnered Academic All-America honors. The Bulldog senior carries a 3.77 GPA and has graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Susdorf is the sixth Bulldog to garner Academic All-American honors. The last Fresno State player to earn Academic All-American honors was Joe Gerber in 1998.
"Steve Susdorf has represented Fresno State with class since the first day he stepped on to our campus," Fresno State coach Mike Batesole said. "He has been outstanding on the field, where he will own or be in the top five in most offensive categories. He will graduate on time in Engineering with close to a 4.0, and he has been a tremendous leader in the clubhouse. He is the major reason we have won three straight WAC Championships."
Susdorf has had a memorable year as he has helped lead Fresno State to its third straight WAC championship. This year he earned WAC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP honors. He became the school's career RBI leader with 205 after passing Todd Johnson's 200 set from 1990-93.
Susdorf is also tied for third on the school career homerun list with 36 and he is second all-time in doubles with 60. His 280 career hits ranks third and he needs eight hits to move into second place. He also had recorded 189 runs, which ranks third and needs only four more runs to move into second place.
