FRESNO, Calif. - The recent recruiting class Fresno State soccer coach Steve Springthorpe signed for the upcoming 2008 season has received publicity as soccerbuzz.com ranked the signings of Rachel Pickett, Molly Nizzoli, Megan Blankenburg, Danielle Solich, Hannah Gilbert, Kendal VanDine and Nicole Zuniga as the top recruiting class in the WAC.
Soccerbuzz also ranked Springthorpe's recruiting class as the 25th best class in the west and one the top 100 recruiting classes in the country.
The Bulldogs open the 2008 season in an exhibition game against Fresno Pacific at Bulldog Stadium. The regular season kicks off on August 22 at the University of San Francisco.
Soccerbuzz WAC Recruiting Rankings
1- Fresno St- VanDine and Blankenburg are great midfield additions and Solich is top defender as Bulldogs dethrone Nevada
2- Hawaii- Another small class works for Hawaii with Lopez and Taaca two of the best from the island staying home
3- San Jose St- New Coach Leightman gets break with solid recruiting class that could arguably be better than both Hawaii and Fresno's
4- Utah State- The Aggies have crept to the top tier of WAC recruiting with this group that covers five states
5- Idaho- has big ground to make up in the WAC but keeper Boyden and a good nucleus of rookies should help
