FRESNO, Calif. - It has been almost two weeks since the opening day of training camp for the No. 25 ranked Fresno State football team. Since the first day of camp coach Pat Hill has been extremely pleased with what he has seen from his football team in practice.
"The players came in with a great attitude and they definitely worked hard over the summer," Hill said. "They have a burning desire and passion to reestablish Bulldog football in the 08 season. They know that the trail and path we want to go is very rough but they are really excited about the journey."
Since the start of camp Hill said that there have been many players that have performed well on the practice field.
"We have had a lot of guys stand out," Hill said. "There have been a lot of kids working hard to be a part of this team in any capacity."
Today the Bulldogs will hold a closed scrimmage at Bulldog Stadium. The scrimmage will be important for the Bulldogs as they prepare for their season opener on September 1 at Rutgers.
"We want to have a very good scrimmage," Hills said. "I am looking to put young guys on the field against veteran guys and see how they hold up. That is what we are going to see at Rutgers."
Dogs Ranked 27th in AP Poll
The sports writers have spoken and the Bulldogs are two spots away from the AP Top 25 poll as they are currently ranked 27th. The Bulldogs play one team in the AP Top 25 in No. 13 Wisconsin. Rutgers, UCLA and Hawai'i are all receiving votes.
"It just shows that our peers and our business respect our program," Hill said. "Now we have to win. We have great tests early. We have to see if we can maintain that momentum."
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The first Big Ten team will travel to the Valley as the `Dogs take on Wisconsin in the home opener on Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen nationally on ESPN2.
