Flat and Horsemanship Riders Lead Dogs at Georgia

FRESNO, Calif. - After a tough match against the defending national championship team, Fresno State head coach Becky Malmo and her squad proved they can compete with any team in the nation.
Fresno State led the match 8-7 heading into the final event, but saw the home Georgia squad sweep the reining competition to deliver a 12-8 victory. Georgia won the overall team title at the 2008 Varsity Equestrian National Championship meet, its third title since 2002.

The Dogs were extremely strong in two of the four events, winning Equitation on the Flat 4-1 and Western Horsemanship 3-2.
Leading the way for the Dogs were Kelsey Bullock, Tarynn Shada, Caitlin Marshall and Kimbery Hewson-Budnik, who all earned wins on the flat. Marshall had the highest score for the Dogs with an 86.
Asheline Beeson and Adriane Smith were impressive in horsemanship, winning their matches.
Senior captain Rebecca Flood, one of the most consistent riders in Bulldog history, also earned a win by scoring a 73.5.
Jennifer Jory, an MVP award winner against Auburn, led the Bulldogs with a win in Equitation over Fences with a score of 79.
Cambria Kissell had the highest score for the Dogs with an 83, but lost her match to Georgia's Katie Haherty, who had an 86.
The Dogs are back on the road this coming weekend with matches in Texas against Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU.
