Bulldog Duo Advances to Finals

FRESNO, Calif. - Rudolf Siwy and Mirko Zapletal continued doubles play on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the H.E.B. Invitational at Baylor University. Both Bulldogs were eliminated from singles action on Friday, but have proved to be a powerful duo in the A-Draw of the doubles bracket.
Siwy/Zapletal faced off against Brigiu/Simon of TCU to begin the day. The `Dogs cruised to an 8-2 victory, earning a spot in the semifinals and improve to 3-0 as a doubles team in their first event of the fall season.
"We played really well today," Assistant Coach Lee Nickell said. "Rudy and Mirko did a good job of capturing momentum, and capitalizing on mistakes."
The only team that stood in the way of Siwy/Zapletal and a spot in the finals was the No. 30 ranked team of Salas/Stoisavljevic of New Mexico State. Siwy/Zapletal battled Salas/Stoisavljevic and came out victorious with a hard fought 8-5 win to earn the right to play in the finals on Sunday.
"We're very excited to play a tough team from Wisconsin in the finals of this prestigious tournament," said Nickell.
The Fresno State duo will face Baumann/Michalicka of Wisconsin in the championship match of the A-Draw of the doubles bracket.
