Bulldogs Fall Short in Finals

FRESNO, Calif. - Rudolf Siwy and Mirko Zapletal finished the first tournament of the fall season with a second place finish in the A-draw of the doubles tournament.
"I am proud of the way we competed today," Assistant Coach Lee Nickell said. "We learned a lot this weekend, and know what we have to work on."
The Bulldogs began the day 4-0 in doubles action to start the season. The No. 39 ranked team, Baumann/Michalicka of Wisconsin was the only team that could stop Siwy/Zapletal's run in the tournament.
Baumann/Michalicka outlasted Siwy/Zapletal 8-5 to capture the championship at Baylor University.
"Our first serve percentage has to get better if we want to win matches against good opponents like Wisconsin," said Nickell. "I feel Rudy and Mirko are prepared to continue to make strong showings throughout the season."
The Fresno State men's tennis team will take the court on Oct. 3 at the Wathen Tennis Center for the Bulldog Classic. It will be Siwy and Zapletal's second tournament of the fall season, and the first time the rest of the team will be in action.
