FRESNO, Calif. - Practice for the Fresno State men's tennis team is underway and the Bulldog's have reason to be optimistic. Rudolf Siwy will start the 2008-09 season at No. 48 in the nation, and Mirko Zapletal debuts at No. 85.
"It's nice to see Rudy and Mirko get recognition for their accomplishments from last season," Head Coach Jay Udwadia said. "The rankings are a good starting point for them, and it gives them room to move higher."
Last year, Siwy was named WAC Player of the Year, and earned First-Team All-WAC honors in both singles and doubles. He compiled 26 victories in singles and 12 wins in doubles with Zapletal.
Zapletal also earned All-WAC first team accolades in doubles, as well as being named Second-Team All-WAC. Zapletal won a total of 19 matches throughout the 2007-08 season.
Siwy and Zapletal will begin the fall season competing in the Baylor Invitational. They will play in the A-draw which features the country's top collegiate players.
"The Baylor Invitational is traditionally one of the stronger fall events," said Udwadia. "It will be good for Rudy and Mirko to get some matches under their belt against ranked opponents."
"Join the State - Fresno State!"
