BREAKING NEWS: The Fresno State baseball team's meet the team event scheduled for Jan. 23 at River Park has been postponed due to the weather.
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State baseball has been ranked No. 19 in USA Today/ ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll. This is the third preseason ranking for the Bulldogs as Collegiate Baseball ranked the `Dogs No. 16 and the NCBWA ranked the Bulldogs No. 17.
"Being ranked in the top 20 in three separate polls speaks to our 10th ranked recruiting class," said head coach Mike Batesole. "We will be very young with 15 freshmen, especially on the mound, but we should be much better in May than in March - and that is when it matters."
All eight teams from the 2008 College World Series were listed in the top 20 and Louisiana State came out on top with the No. 1 ranking.
Fresno State received 247 points and finished No. 1 in the final 2008 poll. 2009 opponent Washington received three votes. The Bulldogs were the only school from the WAC represented in the poll and one of seven California schools to be ranked among the top 25.
The Bulldogs open the season at home against Washington on Friday, Feb. 20.
