FRESNO, Calif. - While the Bulldog men's team golf got rained out of their final round in Fairfax, Calif., the Bulldog women enjoy warm sunny skies for their second round of the New Mexico State Price Collegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.
After posting their best score of the season Monday, the Dogs did themselves one shot better with a second-round score of 297 Tuesday.
Fresno State is tied for third place with San Diego State with one round remaining. The Dogs are at 595, 11 shots behind UC Irvine and 12 behind tournament leader Idaho, 583.
The Dogs have been consistent as a team as three student-athletes are tied for 11th place at 3-over par. Hali Coppin, Lindi Covarrubias and Louisa Lies are leading the way for the team at 147.
Lies had the best score of the day for the Dogs with a 71. She did it using her power golf game from the tee box, playing the par 5 holes at three under par, including an eagle on the fourth hole. She also only had 30 putts on the round.
"Louisa was really striking the ball well today," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore. "Even when she got in trouble, she hit some miraculous shots. Overall she hit some outstanding golf shots today. Hali played well today, too. She's capable of making a lot of birdies."
Chelsea Czinksi (78) and Pia Escandon (86) are in 53rd an 86th place, respectively.
The Bulldogs will play the final round of the tournament with Baylor and Arizona beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT Wednesday morning.
"We have played very solid golf the last two days and hopefully we have one more good round in us," said Cates-Moore. "We'd love nothing better than to have a great round in our last tournament this fall."
"We are Your Team" The Bulldog women's golf team concludes play in the New Mexico State Price Collegiate Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. on Wednesday morning.
