Bulldogs Developing At Cal Nike Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's newcomers gained valuable experience on Friday at the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.
It was the first collegiate matches for Fresno State's Bianca Modoc, Melissa McQueen, Olga Kirpicheva and Anna Mikhaylova. The group combined for three singles and one doubles victories in the first day of action of the tournament.
"We had some good moments for first day, especially in doubles," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We will learn to manage our errors better and it's always positive to get some experience under our belt."
In their first time pairing together, Fresno State's Modoc and Mikhaylova defeated San Francisco's Melinda Akerbrant and Yune Hashiguchi, 8-0.
In singles action, Modoc recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory over WAC foe, Aodhnait Lombard of Nevada.
After sustaining first round losses, Mikhaylova and Kirpicheva each bounced back to pick up victories in the consolation round.
Play will resume Saturday and go through Sunday.
