ITA NW Regional Ahead for Men's Tennis

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team will have a chance to battle some new foes, when they conclude the tournament portion of the schedule the ITA Northwest Regional in Berkeley, Calif., which runs from Friday through Tuesday.
None of the seven Bulldogs competing have faced their first opponent of the tournament in their college career.
Senior Mirko Zapletal drew a bye, but six of Bulldogs will see singles action in the first round. In doubles, Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers will have the first round off, while three other Fresno State combos will compete.
Freshman David Ayoun looks to set the tone for the Bulldogs with the first match of the morning at 8 a.m. against Gonzaga's Guillermo Levin.
At 9:30 a.m., Fresno State senior Taylor Leiby faces Bijan Hejazi of Cal and the Bulldogs' de Villiers meets up with Stanford's Sam Ecker. Fifteen minutes later, freshman Hugo Verdi Fortin squares off against Ted Kelly of Stanford and Tejesvi Veerepalli is pitted against Eastern Washington's Julian Sanchez. Siddharth Alapati will face Ola Bakke at 10 a.m. Zapletal 's second round match will be at 12:15 p.m. against the winner of the match between Andrea Zannoni of Saint Mary's and UC Davis' Nick Amaroli
Doubles action begins on Saturday. Ayoun and Verdi Fortin are scheduled to face Andrew Kells and Nicolas Vine of Santa Clara at 8 a.m. At 9:15 Fresno State will have three dual teams competing. Zapletal and Veerepalli vs. Matt Stith and Skyler Tateishi of Washington and Alapati and Leiby against Rainer Nachbauer and William Schumacher of San Francisco, while Remi Boutillier and de Villiers have their second round match after receiving a first-round bye.
After the Regional, the Bulldogs will next be in action in their home opener of the dual season - a doubleheader against Nevada and Idaho on Jan. 23.
