De Villiers Plays His Way Into Round of 16

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior Rikus de Villiers notched a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory over Cal's Zack Gilbert to earn a berth in the Round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.
In doubles action, senior Mirko Zapletal and Taylor Leiby defeated Andrea Zannoni and Mike Luck of Saint Mary's to advance to the Round of 16.
"We had some tough matches today and we're looking forward to competing tomorrow with Rikus and our remaining doubles team of Mirko and Taylor," Fresno State head coach Jay Udwadia said.
The Regional will continue tomorrow and conclude on Tuesday.
