Petukhova/Modoc Advance to the Doubles Quarterfinals

FRESNO, Calif. - Although it is their first tournament paired together, it wasn't apparent, as Fresno State's Anastasia Petukhova and Bianca Modoc advanced to quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Regional on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Petukhova and Modoc knocked off Venise Chan and Aleksandra Malovic, 8-4, in the Round of 16 to earn a berth in the quarterfinals.
In singles action, the 22nd-ranked Petukhova qualified for the Round of 16 with a default victory against Washington's Lina Xu.
In the Round of 16, she met Stanford's Mallory Burdette, with the Cardinal coming away with a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
"Anastasia competed hard and left everything on the court," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It was a great college match and was very entertaining for the fans present at the Stanford tennis courts."
The ITA Northwest Reigonal will continue tomorrow until Monday in Palo Alto, Calif.
