FRESNO, Calif. - After three top 5 finishes for start the season, the Bulldog mens' golf team had his only sub-par performance of the fall schedule with a 10th place finish at the 2009 Saint Mary's Invitational held at the Poppy Hills Golf Club.
Fresno State finished the tournament at 39-over par (297-307-299--903). Nevada (291-290-288--869) won the tournament at 5-over par.
The top finisher for the Dogs was 2009 WAC Player of the Year Grant Doverspike with a tie for 25th place (73-75-76--224) at 8-over par. He was the only Bulldog on the Top 35. Bryan Hogan (74-73-79--226) was tied for 35th, while Tim Toste (76-79-73--228) was two shots back.
Bhavik Patel played his best round of the tournament on the final round with a 74 and was 13-over par for the tournament to tie for 48th place. Michael Gideon (77-81-73--231) and Adam Barkow (73-84-76--233) rounded out the field for the Dogs tied for 61st and 69th, respectively.
"I told the team that good golfers have short memories," said head coach Mike Watney. "Every golfer will occasionally have a bad tournament. The good ones forget it, put it behind them, and look forward to the next event with the same positive expectancy as they always do. I used Nick Watney as a recent example. Nick missed the cut at his last PGA Tour event in his home town of Las Vegas. He forgot it and went back to work on his game. Then last weekend, he was in the final pairing on Sunday in China with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. We've got plenty of time to forget it before spring. We'll be fine."
The Dogs are off until February 1, 2010 when they compete in the University of Arizona Intercollegiate.
"We are Your Team" The Bulldog men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the schedule at the Saint Mary's Invitational at the Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
