Dogs Sixth at Pacific Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - Just their third tournament of the season the Bulldog men's golf team is again near the top of the team leaderboard.
After two Top-5 finishes thus far, the Bulldogs are tied for sixth place after the first round at the 37th Annual University of Pacific Invitational. More importantly, the Dogs are just 8 shots off the lead held by Oregon and UC Davis.
Fresno State opened the tournament with a score of 281, 3-under par as a team. The Dogs had been as low as 6-under par at times during the first round. The tournament is held at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif. As a team, Fresno State had 23 birdies on the day. All five of the Dogs posted scores of 73 or better.
Adam Barkow is tied for sixth place with a 3-under round of 69. He carded five birdies and two bogeys on the round.
Bhavik Patel, the reigning WAC Player of the Month, has six birdies on his round and finished the day with a score of 70. He has posted six rounds of par or better this season and has a scoring average under 70. He has two Top-10 finishes this season and it currently in 18th place.
Michael Gideon had four birdies on his first eight holes of the day and finished even par and tied for 22nd place. He has a stroke average of 70.33 over his last three rounds.
2009 WAC Player of the Year Grant Doverspike and Bryan Hogan each shot 1-over par 73 and are tied at 32nd place.
Following the co-leaders is Pacific (-6), three shots ahead of the Bulldogs. Fresno State is two shots behind BYU in fourth place and one behind Saint Mary's , which is fifth.
Tyler Raber of UC Davis and Eugene Wong of Oregon each shot a 64 in the first round to share the lead. The tournament resumes at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
