FRESNO, Calif. - There's nothing in sports like a packed stadium. That will be the case for the 2009 Fresno State baseball team in the Feb. 20th home opener against the University of Washington.
The Bulldogs are the defending NCAA champions and open defense of their title at historic Beiden Field, capacity 3,575.
Russell Hayden, Fresno State's Director of Ticket Operations, announced the sellout today.
The Bulldogs captured the hearts of America in June by becoming the lowest seeded team in any NCAA sport to win a national championship. Fresno State won the College World Series by beating Georgia 6-1 in the championship game.
Several key players from that team return, including the College World Series MVP Tommy Mendonca, outfielders Steve Detwiler and Gavin Hedstrom, infielders Alan Ahmady , Danny Muno and Jordan Ribera, and catcher Danny Grubb. The Bulldogs pitching staff includes Holden Sprague, Jake Floethe and Sean Bonesteele, who all made valuable contributions to Fresno State's national championship run at the College World Series in Omaha.
Fresno State is ranked in the preseason Top 20 polls and picked by the WAC coaches to win their fourth-consecutive league title this spring.
Fresno State has reserved some tickets for the opening game for fans who want to purchase season tickets. Season ticket packages that include all three Washington games will be available until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Fresno State students will have access to approximately 400 free tickets beginning Tuesday morning at both the Bulldog Ticket Office at the south entrance of Bulldog Stadium and the Univeristy Student Union (USU).
Season tickets, mini-plan packages and single game tickets remain available for the 2009 baseball season, including the Saturday and Sunday games against the Huskies. Fresno State's corporate partner Bayer CropScience will provide 2,000 commemorative national champion posters during the second game of the Washington series, Saturday, Feb. 21. That game will begin at 2:05 p.m.
The Dogs wrap-up Washington series on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
Join the State - Fresno State! Join the action as the defending National Champion Bulldog baseball team hosts the Washington Huskies in the season opening series Feb. 20-22. Tickets remain for the final two games of the series. Click the tickets icon at the top of this page to purchase.
