FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hits the road for the first time in 2009 as it heads north to play a three-game series against the Oregon Ducks. The first game is Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. The games on Saturday and Sunday are both at 1 p.m.
This is the first meeting of the teams in 34 years, and the last time they played a series was in 1975. The Ducks are beginning their first season after a 28-year hiatus. The Bulldogs will play in front of their second sold out crowd this season, only this time on the road.
The `Dogs are 2-2 after a four-game homestand against Washington and Cal Poly. The Ducks are 1-2 after opening the season at Saint Mary's. Oregon won the first game 5-3 and Saint Mary's came back and won Saturday's double header 6-3 and 4-2.
Bulldog fans are familiar with Oregon head coach George Horton, who was the long time coach at Cal State Fullerton. Horton has an overall coaching record of 716-256-1 after 17 years at Cal State Fullerton.
Fresno State leads the overall series against the Ducks 4-3. Sunday's game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Northwest. All three games will be broadcasted on KMJ 580 and live stats will be available on www.godducks.com.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs travel north to Oregon to battle the Ducks February 27-March 1. The `Dogs return to Beiden Field on Saturday, March 7 as they host Buffalo at 2:05 pm. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Bulldog Ticket Office, calling 278-DOGS or online at gobulldogs.com.
