FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State looks to continue its home dominance, where it has won 12 of its last 14 matches, on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when the Pacific Tigers visit the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs have established themselves as one of the elite programs in the nation and are ranked 15th in the Feb. 24 ITA Tennis Rankings and have three singles players in the latest ITA Tennis rankings - Melanie Gloria (17), Anastasia Petukhova (21) and Renata Kucerkova (79).
Fresno State also boasts some of the best doubles teams in the country in top-ranked Petukhova and Kucerkova and No. 14 Tinesta Rowe and Gloria.
Pacific is 5-5 on the year and unranked. The Bulldogs will be the second WAC team the Tigers faced in 2009. On Jan. 31 Nevada went to Stockton, Calif. and picked up a 4-3 win.
The Tigers also don't have any individuals or doubles teams listed in the latest ITA Tennis rankings.
Fresno State is 15-9 all-time against Pacific. The Tigers owed the early years of the series and won nine of the first 12 meetings, including six-straight wins from 1991-93. However since 1996, it has been all Bulldogs. Fresno State has won 12-straight matches against the Tigers, including back-to-back 7-0 wins in 2007 and 2008.
On an individual note, with a victory on Saturday, Gloria can pull within one win away from second place on the Fresno State career wins list.
After Saturday, the Bulldogs will start a four-match in five days home stand starting on March 11 against Penn, then No. 21 TCU on March 12, followed by Arizona on March 14 and will conclude with No. 35 Sacramento State on March 15.
