`Dogs Head to Long Beach for Weekend Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - After a 12-1 victory in the home opener on Thursday night, the No. 12/15 Bulldog softball team will hit the road once again to compete in the Mayfair Tournament hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday and Sunday in Lakewood, Calif.
The 'Dogs are 7-3 on the season and will take on Iowa State and Wisconsin on Saturday in back-to-back games beginning at 5:45 p.m. The tournament concludes on Sunday as Fresno State will face Cal State Northridge at 1 p.m. followed by the host 49ers at 3:15 p.m.
This will be the second meeting of the year between the 'Dogs and both Wisconsin and CSUN. Fresno State defeated both of these teams on opening weekend, a 5-0 win over the Badgers and a 3-0 eight-inning victory over the Matadors.
It will be the first meeting between Iowa State and Fresno State in four years as the 'Dogs lead the series 3-0 with two shutouts.
Fresno State and Long Beach State have a long rivalry dating back to 1985 which the Bulldogs hold the advantage 32-12. The two met at the Judi Garman Classic last season in Fullerton, Calif., as Morgan Melloh shutout LBSU 2-0.
The tournament begins today with four games and also features BYU.
