`Dogs Roll Against Aztecs

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 42 Fresno State channeled the momentum of winning all three doubles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 50 San Diego State on Friday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State's Taylor Leiby and Tejesvi Veerepali's 8-0 doubles victory over the Aztecs' Luis Rattenhuber and Jordan Colman appeared to motivate their Bulldog teammates. After Leiby and Veerepali finished, Fresno State wrapped up doubles competition with a complete sweep.
"We came out great in doubles, which was key for setting the tone for the whole match," head coach Jay Udwadia said of the contest that drew a season-high 175 fans.
The Bulldogs picked up in singles right where they left off in doubles. Sophomore Rikus de Villiers cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Aztecs' Juan Gomez. Siddharth Alapati also played strong for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Andre Feliz.
Freshman Remi Boutillier clinched the win for Fresno State with his 7-5, 6-3 victory over Tim Schultz van Endert. Boutillier overcame an early deficit to knock off Shultz van Endert in straight sets.
"When I made my comeback, it helped me relax and win the first set," Boutillier said. "After I won that, I felt more confident and I played a lot better."
Fresno State's Rudolf Siwy and Mirko Zapletal both collected dramatic three-set victories. Siwy defeated Achim Ceban 2-6, 6-3, (10-4), while Zapletal beat Bartosz Golas 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), (10-6).
"San Diego State is a great team from top to bottom. This win should give us confidence going into our match with Arizona," Udwadia said.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday against No. 35 Arizona at 1 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. Fresno State will conclude its three-match weekend on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Middle Tennessee State.
