Bulldogs Ready to Play LMU

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hits the road for the first time since March 1. The `Dogs travel south to play Loyola Marymount in a four-game series March 20-22. The first game Friday is at 3 p.m. followed by a double-header on Saturday at 11 a.m. and wraps up with the final game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs lead the overall series against LMU 27-9. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2007. The Bulldogs swept LMU, 15-4, 5-3 and 5-4, in a three-game series in Fresno.
The Lions are 8-11 on the season and just wrapped up a four-game series in Hawai'i. The Lions dropped four straight against Hawai'i, 6-5, 3-2, 9-5, and 6-5. Three of the games were decided by one run and one game went into extra innings. Angelo Songco leads the team with 21 RBIs. He has hit five doubles, a triple and five home runs this season and is batting .373. The team is batting a combined .284 in 19 games.
The `Dogs wrapped up an eight-game home stand on March 14 and went 7-1 last week winning the 31st Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic. The Bulldogs outscored their opponents 83-19, as the offense came alive and had a combined 67 hits last week with 11 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 49 RBIs.
Five Bulldogs hit over .400 during the PJQ Classic. Tom Mendonca hit three home runs, one of which was a grand slam. Alan Ahmady led the way in RBIs with eight on the week.
The Fresno State pitching staff had a good week they threw a combined 36 strikeouts and had a combined ERA of 1.83. Overall, in 15 games the Bulldogs have struck out 97 batters and have a combined ERA of 3.43.
