`Dogs Sweep Penn State

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 43 Fresno State brought its strongest performance of the Blue-Gray Classic on its final day of competition with a 4-0 sweep of No. 55 Penn State on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.
The Bulldogs grinded out two wins in doubles action to earn the doubles point, then really turned it up in singles with three impressive victories, to complete the sweep.
Defending WAC Player of the Year Rudolf Siwy set the tone for the Bulldogs with his 6-2, 6-1 victory over Brendan Lynch. Siwy's win gave Fresno State a 2-0 lead, and his teammates followed his lead.
Fresno State's Tejesvi Veerepalli clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ryan Gormley on court five.
Bulldog Freshman Remi Boutillier picked up his third win of the tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 route of Eddie Bourchier.
In doubles, Siwy and Mirko Zapletal defeated Adam Slagter and Jason Lee, 8-6. And Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier knocked off Bourchier and Gormley, 8-5.
"We played a great match today against a tough Penn State team," head coach Jay Udwadia said. "It was nice to finish the weekend on a positive note."
The Bulldogs ended the prestigious Blue-Gray Classic with a 2-1 record. The Bulldogs return to the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center to take on UC Santa Barbara on March 29 at noon.
