Fresno State Shuts Out Anteaters

FRESNO, Calif. - The 40th-ranked Fresno State men's tennis team made it four-straight victories on Tuesday with a 7-0 shutout of No. 67 UC Irvine at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs won all six singles matches in straight sets and swept the doubles.
"The team played well," head coach Jay Udwadia said. "We're not giving away any unforced errors. Hopefully we'll continue to build this success for the upcoming matches."
Taylor Leiby has played well for Fresno State since being inserted into the singles lineup on Sunday against UC Santa Barbara. The junior from Seal Beach, Calif., won his second-straight dual match, with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Zac Tsai.
"It feels good to pull out two victories in a row," Leiby said. "I concentrated on getting to the net for every single point."
Junior Tejesvi Veerepalli clinched the win for the Bulldogs for the second-straight match, by defeating Stephen Stege, 6-1, 6-4.
Senior Rudolf Siwy used the momentum of winning a close first set, to dominate in the second, in his 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Fabian Matthews. Mirko Zapletal cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Steven Henderson, and Rikus de Villiers defeated Sam Gould, 6-2, 6-4.
Remi Boutillier capped off the shutout with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Khumpol Issara.
In doubles, No. 37 Siwy and Zapletal sent away Issara and Gould with an 8-6 loss. Boutillier and de Villiers picked up an 8-3 win over Jon Kazarian and Tsai. Leiby and Veerepalli handed Gautam Vaidyanathan and Henderson an 8-2 loss.
The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak to five matches on Friday with a crucial WAC match against Hawaii at the Wathen Tennis Center. The following day Utah State and Idaho will pay the Wathen a visit for a WAC doubleheader.
