'Dogs Take Game 3

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team came out swinging Sunday afternoon tallying six runs on seven hits for the 6-5 win over New Mexico State. Last night the Bulldogs were held to three hits and were shutout, but that wasn't the case today.
Fresno State leads the series 2-1 and has an overall mark of 18-15. The Bulldogs have gone four games in a row committing no errors.
Senior Danny Grubb hit a stand up double down the left field line in the third inning. Trent Soares followed with a walk. Shortstop Danny Muno walked to load the bases. Alan Ahmady singled to center field driving in Grubb and Soares allowing the Bulldogs to get on the board first with a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth inning. Brennan Gowens doubled to left field. Right fielder Steve Detwiler grounded out advancing Gowens to third base. Kenny Wise singled through the right side and Gowens crossed home plate extending the `Dogs lead to 3-0.
In the fifth inning, Muno walked. Muno leads the team with 29 walks this year and has 85 career walks. He needs seven more to break into the top 10 in Fresno State history.
Muno stole second base his third stolen base of the series. Second baseman Gavin Hedstrom walked. Ahmady walked to load the bases. Tom Mendonca grounded out at first base allowing Muno to score and the Bulldogs lead 4-0 heading into the sixth inning.
Cody Kendall got his x start of the year. The freshman sat down the batters in order in the second inning. Kendall struck out two in 5 1/3 innings.
The Aggies hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning trailing the `Dogs 4-2.
Junior Zac Bischoff came out of the bullpen and struck out the side in the seventh inning. He struck out a career-high four batters in 2 2/3 innings.
Hedstrom walked in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mendonca singled to left field advancing Hedstrom to second base. Gowens walked to load the bases. Detwiler reached base on an error and two runners came home and the Bulldogs led 6-2.
Bischoff retired the top of the eighth inning picking off a runner at second base.
The Aggies scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, but the Bulldogs pulled away with the 6-5 win.
The Bulldogs and Aggies conclude their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m.

The `Dogs and Aggies play Friday at 6:05 pm, Saturday at 6:05 pm, Sunday at 2:05 pm and wrap up the series Monday at 6:05 pm. Junior Bulldog Kids Club members can run the bases after Sunday's game.
