FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hits the road for their first WAC road trip of 2009. The Bulldogs travel to the Bayou state to face Louisiana Tech in a four-game series starting Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m. pacific time.
Fresno State vs. Louisiana Tech
Fresno State leads the overall series 24-14. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2008 and Fresno State swept Louisiana Tech in Fresno. The Fresno State Bulldogs won 14-5, 9-8, 8-0, and 11-1.Fresno State has a seven game winning streak over Louisiana Tech dating back to 2007.
About the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are 13-16 this season and 1-7 in conference. The Bulldogs have faced Nevada and San Jose State. La Tech went 1-3 against Nevada and 0-4 against San Jose State. The Bulldogs are hitting .303 with 59 doubles, 43 home runs and 225 RBIs. Kevin Winn is leading the way batting .393 with 11 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBIs. The Bulldogs pitching staff has an ERA of 7.62 and they have struck out 188 batters. Dylan Moseley has a 3-3 record with a 4.25 ERA. He has struck out 25 batters in 48.2 innings.
Mendonca Ties Record
Tom Mendonca hit two home runs against New Mexico State and tied the all-time home run record on April 13, a day after his 21st birthday. The junior has 14 home runs on the season and 43 in his career. He needs one more home runs to move past current all-time leader Guiseppe Chiramonte.
Batesole Nears 500
In his 14th year as a head coach, Mike Batesole is seven games away from earning his 500th victory. Batesole has led his team to five conference titles (four WAC and one Big West) and in 2008 won his first national title with the Bulldogs.
Leading the Nation
The Bulldogs have found their way to the top of the national leader boards. Fresno State is second in the nation in walks with 198, they are behind WAC opponent New Mexico State. Junior Tom Mendonca is eighth in the nation in home runs with 14 and 15th in RBIs with 47. Danny Muno is sixth in walks with 33. Senior Danny Grubb is the 49th toughest batter to strikeout.
`Dogs in the Ninth
The Bulldogs have hits three walk-off home runs in 2009. Tom Mendonca hit one against UC Davis and Buffalo. Dusty Robinson hit his first walk-off home run against New Mexico State. Danny Grubb hit a game winning single against Cal State Bakersfield. Jake Johnson scored the winning run in the ninth inning on a passed ball to earn a win over Washington.
Extra Innings
The Bulldogs game against New Mexico State on April 10 went into extra innings. It is the first game that went long. The `Dogs are 1-0 in extra innings after Dusty Robinson hit a walk off home run.
