FRESNO, Calif. - On senior night at Bulldog Diamond, the Bulldogs honored Haley and Mallory Perkins prior to first pitch of game. The `Dogs then went on to split the doubleheader with No. 25 Nevada as they took game one 4-0 and dropped the finale 5-1. The `Dogs won the series after picking up the 1-0 victory last night in nine innings. Fresno State is 28-18 on the year and now 10-5 in WAC play.
"We didn't play like we wanted to in game two, but taking two out of three from Nevada is good for us," Haley Perkins said.
Game One: Fresno State 4, No. 25 Nevada 0
Morgan Melloh and the Bulldogs picked up their second complete game shutout over No. 25 Nevada in two days.
Melloh's third strikeout of the game to end the top of the second gave her 810 in her career as she passed Ali Andrus-Sagas of Utah on the all-time WAC third for third.
Stiglich led off the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. The first pitch to the next batter Lisamarie Coronado hit her. A walk to Nicole Angene then loaded the bases with no outs. Brooke Phipps then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score pinch runner Kaylan Pollard as the `Dogs took the 1-0 lead.
A ground out by Mallory Perkins moved the runners up with two outs for Haley Perkins. Haley Perkins singled up the middle as Coronado scored for a 2-0 lead.
Katie Holverson then entered for Nevada to replace Mallary Darby in the circle. Darby allowed four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. Holverson's first pitch Haley Gilleland took to left center for a double to drive in two runs for a 4-0 lead.
Melloh had nine strikeouts in the game and allowed just four hits. With the win, she improved to 22-13 on the year.
The `Dogs had eight hits in the game, led by Gilleland with three.
Game Two: Nevada 5, Fresno State 1
Michelle Moses gave the `Dogs the early lead in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left center field. It was her seventh of the season, a team-high.
Melloh started game two, going 4.0 inning allowing two earned runs on five hits. She pitched 16 innings of shutout ball vs. Nevada until the top of the third when Nevada tied the game.
Nevada took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth off of a Bulldog error. They would add one more in the fifth and two more in the seventh for the 5-1 victory and to avoid getting swept.
With the win in game two, Nevada now re-takes the WAC lead from the `Dogs and is ½ game up in the conference standings.
Mackenzie Oakes pitched 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
The `Dogs got five hits off of Holverson (19-7),
