FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hosts Nevada for a conference match up May 1-3. This is the first meeting between the two teams since the Bulldogs beat the Wolf Pack in the 2008 WAC Tournament earning their third WAC title.
This weekend's four-game series is sponsored by RBC wealth management. Friday night an iPod Touch will be given away to the loudest and craziest Fresno State student. Saturday is Strikeout Hunger benefiting the Community Food Bank. The first 250 fans to bring five or more non-perishable food items will receive FREE admission.
Sunday is Youth Baseball Day at Beiden Field. All youth baseball teams in uniform are invited to take the field for the National Anthem. For group ticket rates contact the group sales coordinator at 244-5621. There will also be a post-game autograph session with the team.
Fresno State vs. Nevada
Fresno State leads the overall series against Nevada 76-43. The Bulldogs played the Wolf Pack nine times in 2008. They played two four-game series. The `Dogs were 4-4 against the Wolf Pack last year in conference play. The last meeting between the two teams was at the WAC Tournament and the Bulldogs defeated Nevada 6-4 to win their third consecutive WAC Championship.
About The Wolf Pack
Nevada leads the WAC with a conference mark of 7-4 and an overall record of 21-20. The Wolf Pack is hitting .291 with 83 doubles, 32 home runs and 232 RBIs. Nick Melino is leading the `Pack hitting .368 with 11 doubles, a home run and 22 RBIs. Matt Bowman leads the team with 7 home runs. The Wolf Pack pitching staff has struck out 258 batters and has a combined ERA of 5.67. Daniel Tinlin has a perfect 3-0 record with a 2.70 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
The Award Goes To...
Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Morse was named the WAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for April 20-26. Morse is the second Bulldog pitcher to earn WAC honors this season. He threw a conplete game shutout against San Jose State on April 24 earning the win and improving to a 3.47 ERA.
Batesole Nears 500
In his 14th year as a head coach, Mike Batesole is five wins away from earning his 500th victory. Batesole has led his team to five conference titles (four WAC and one Big West) and in 2008 won his first national title with the Bulldogs.
Extra Innings
The `Dogs have had two games go into extra innings in 2009. The Bulldogs went 10 innings against Cal Poly losing 17-16. Fresno State's game against New Mexico State on April 10 went into extra innings. It is the first game that went long. The `Dogs are 1-0 in extra innings after Dusty Robinson hit a walk off home run. The Bulldogs are 1-1 in extra innings this year.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs return to Beiden Field as they host WAC rival Nevada May 1-3. The `Dogs and Wolfpack square off for a single game Friday at 6:05 pm, a doubleheader starting at 2:05 pm Saturday and wrap up the series Sunday at 1:05 pm. Saturday's game features a Community Food Bank food drive. Sunday is Youth Baseball Day and all youth baseball players are invited to take the field for the National Anthem.
