FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's basketball coach Adrian Wiggins has announced the signings of Rosie Moult to a National Letter of Intent and Veronica Wilson to an Athletic Aid Agreement. Both players join the Bulldogs with solid playing credentials and Wiggins was quick to credit his assistants for their hard work in recruiting.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the job our assistant coaches have done in putting together this signing class," Wiggins said. "They are exactly what we want in student-athletes in the classroom and on the floor. Our women's program is in good hands for several years to come with the class they just put together."
Moult comes to Fresno State from Olinda, Victoria, Australia. She is a 6'0 versatile player who can play the guard and forward positions. She is the sixth Australian to don a Bulldog uniform and she toured the United States as a member of the Melbourne Roos, a team Chantella Perera, Hayley Munro, Emma Andrews and Ali Drennan all played for.
In her only appearance in the Save Mart Center in 2006 she had six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals in 26 minutes of play. That same team consisted of current Bulldogs Munro and Andrews.
Moult currently plays for the Australian Institute of Sport. Prior to her selection as a member of the national team, Moult played at the club level for the Nunawading Spectres.
She has been selected to the Victoria State team on multiple occasions and owns several gold medals at the Australian national championships. She will be representing Australia at the FIBA U19 World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand July 23-August 2.
"Rosie can really shoot the three and she is a great defender," Wiggins said. "She comes to us highly acclaimed as she played for the Australian Institute of Sport, which is a training ground for future Olympians."
Wilson was a part of a Boston College team that advanced to the Final Four of the 2009 WNIT tournament. This year she played in 20 games for the Eagles and averaged 6.4 minutes a game. She scored a career-high seven points against St. Johns, five rebounds vs. UMASS and four assists vs. Dartmouth. As a freshman, Wilson played in 16 games for Boston College. Wilson will sit out the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
"Veronica is a 6-2 center we needed to add to our depth," Wiggins said. "She has a great outside shot. She comes to us from a solid ACC program in Boston College who is strong year in and year out. She has family in Oakhurst. We are excited that her family will be able to see her play."
The Fresno State coaching staff has now signed five student-athletes in the fall and spring signing periods. In the fall, Taylor Thompson, a 5'5 guard from Okla., signed with the Bulldogs along with Jeanna Furst, a 6'3 center from Ariz., and Drennan, a 5'9 guard from Australia. Drennan has been practicing with the team since January.
