Doverspike and Patel Head to NCAA Tournament

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State junior, Grant Doverspike, and freshman Bhavik Patel head to the NCAA regionals at the 6,863 yard, par 72 Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City hosted by the University of San Francisco.
Doverspike is the No.1 seeded individual qualifier at that site and Patel is the No. 9 seed. Fresno State was the only WAC school to get two individual competitors in. Nevada and San Jose State each got one and New Mexico State was the automatic team qualifier for the WAC.
Tee times are set. Patel will tee of at 10:10 a.m. and Doverspike will tee off at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday morning. Hole-by-hole live scoring will be available via Golfstat.com.
The championships will be conducted May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The University of Toledo is the host institution for this year's championships.
NCAA Men's Golf Championship Format
Three regionals will have fields of 13 teams and 10 individuals, with the other three consisting of 14 teams and five individuals each for a total of 75 players at each site. The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will qualify from each regional site for the NCAA Division I Men's Championship at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. NCAA Nationals run May 26-30, 2009. The finals also will have a new format, with the final eight teams after 54 holes facing off in match play to determine the national champion. The individual winner will be crowned after 54 holes instead of 72 as in past years.
