FRESNO, Calif. - Right-hander Matt Morse transferred to Fresno State in 2009 and has moved into a starting role on the mound for the Bulldogs. Morse has seven starts, 14 appearances and was named WAC Co-Pitcher of the Week. He has an ERA of 3.63 striking out 34 in 52.2 innings pitched. Morse sat down with gobulldogs.com to answer some questions.
GB: Why did you choose Fresno State?
MM: It is a good school with a great baseball program. There are also great fans here.
GB: When did you start playing baseball?
MM: When I was 5 years old because all the cool kids were playing.
GB: What is your favorite thing about Fresno State baseball?
MM: All the guys on the team and the competiveness. Plus there is chocolate milk in the weight room after workouts.
GB: What is your pregame ritual?
MM: I put my uniform on a certain way and I can't touch the foul lines.
GB: When you aren't playing baseball, you are...
MM: Hanging out with friends and family, at the gym, playing wiffle ball, hacky sack, gold, or bowling.
GB: Who is your sports hero?
MM: Tim Lincecum because he is 5'9 and throws gas.
GB: What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
MM: Slipping in the mud attempting to field a bunt.
GB: What is playing on your iPod?
MM: Van Morrison, Hollywood Undead, and a lot of country.
GB: What is your favorite food?
MM: Mexican.
GB: What is your favorite TV show?
MM: Scrubs and Mentalist.
GB: What is your favorite movie?
MM: Lucky Number Slevin.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs return to Beiden Field as they host WAC rival Nevada May 1-3. The `Dogs and Wolfpack square off for a single game Friday at 6:05 pm, a doubleheader starting at 2:05 pm Saturday and wrap up the series Sunday at 1:05 pm. One lucky Fresno State student will win an iPod Touch. Saturday's game features a Community Food Bank food drive. The first 250 fans who bring five or more non-perishable food items to the game will receive FREE admission. Sunday is Youth Baseball Day and all youth baseball players in uniform are invited to take the field for the National Anthem. There will also be a post-game autograph session.
