FRESNO, Calif. - Latrisha Jordan continues to impress at the NCAA Championships.
Jordan battled her way through the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles Thursday to earn a spot in the event finals at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
The freshman from Ceres, Calif., clocked a 58.14, a new Fresno State record and career-best. Jordan finished third in heat to automatically advance to the finals Friday at 5:55 p.m. PST.
"Latrisha did really well," said had coach Scott Winsor. "She was in lane nine; so she was running blind, not able to see any of her competitors. She came off the fourth turn, when she could finally see everyone, determined to catch people ahead of her. It's a huge accomplishment for a freshman to advance to the finals at the NCAA out of lane nine."
Ranked No. 20 of the 27 competitors entering the NCAAs, Jordan has defied the odds to move into the nine-person final. Jordan, who is seeded No 6 for the final, is one of two freshman earning bids to the final.
"She's just a competitor," said Winsor. "But there's still more in the tank. She sees people in front of her and she's going to go get them."
Both Bulldogs will compete in their event finals on Friday. Before Jordan takes to the track, Sharon Ayala will throw in the finals of the hammer throw.
