FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's assistant men's tennis coach, Lee Nickell, has been named the new head coach for the University at Buffalo.
"I'm thankful for the experience of coaching at Fresno State," said Nickell. "This has been a great year and I'd like to thank Jay Udwadia and Betsy Mosher for this opportunity. I will truly miss my time here at Fresno State, but I am excited to use some of my experiences here as I begin with the University at Buffalo."
This past season, Nickell helped guide the Bulldogs to a final ranking of 44th in the nation and a 17-9 overall dual match record. While the Bulldogs narrowly missed an at-large bid into the NCAA Team Tournament, Rudolf Siwy qualified for the singles tournament, upsetting No. 27 Michael Shabaz of Virginia in the first round.
"Lee came in with a lot of experience and did a great job for us," said Udwadia, a Buffalo native. "He will be missed here, but I'm glad he found an opportunity to further pursue his career. Lee will make a great head coach."
Nickell replaces three-year Bulls coach Sherif Zaher, who resigned in April.
