Udwadia to Coach at USTA National Team Championpionships

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second time in his career, Fresno State head coach Jay Udwadia has been selected to guide some of the elite tennis prospects in nation. This summer Udwadia will coach for the USTA National Team Championships NorCal Boys 18 section.
Udwadia will coach the six top junior players in the Northern California section at the USTA National Team Championships on Aug. 1-4 in Urbana, Ill.. Previously he served as the head coach for the NorCal team in 2007.
"I look forward to coaching this great team, it should be a lot of fun," Udwadia said.
The USTA National Team Championships is a dual meet style tournament with 16 teams from various sections of the country.
"It gives the players a chance to compete as a team against a high level of competition and it also gives them a feel for college tennis," Udwadia said.
The national team tournament is a lead up to the USTA Boys National Championship in Kalamazoo, Mich., where Udwadia will be in attendance recruiting the nation's premier junior players.
Udwadia has served as Fresno State's men's tennis head coach for the past five seasons and led the Bulldogs to the WAC Championship match three seasons in a row from 2006-2008.
"It's good to have a Fresno State presence on the staff to coach some of the top players in the country," Udwadia said.
In the summer of 2008 he led the New York Buzz to the franchise's first WTT Championship.
