FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State soccer coach Brian Zwaschka announced today that Josh Duffy will join the Bulldog soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Duffy's responsibilities will be primarily on field helping with both goalkeepers and field players. He will also be active in community relations, on-campus recruiting, scouting, and other program duties.
"With the addition of Josh, I feel very fortunate to have the support of a diverse and experienced staff who fully complement one another," said Zwaschka. "Josh brings a level of expertise in player evaluation that gives vital additional perspective as we continue to assemble and refine what I feel can be a special team. His energy and positive, professional demeanor only bolster my vision for what this team can be."
Duffy comes to Fresno State from one of the Valley's top youth Clubs, California Odyssey Soccer Club, where he currently serves as a director and coach. His unique experience there includes working with the US Soccer Development Academy team as a direct feeder project to the US National Team program. Duffy also has coaching experience at the collegiate level assisting at Rockhurst University, a top 20 NCAA Division II Soccer Program in Kansas City, MO.
Duffy played at Saint Mary's College of California for four years, captaining the team and earning all-conference honors, remarkably as both a goalkeeper and a field player. After SMC, Duffy went on to play professionally with spells in the MLS, the Netherlands, and Germany.
"Josh has professional insight at the highest level and is a crisp communicator of his ideas and invaluable experiences," said Zwaschka. "He is very dedicated to his development as a coach and we know we will benefit from that. The soccer program is very fortunate to have him on board."
Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Duffy grew up playing for the Kansas City Attack Soccer Club and went on to win the USYSA Andy Stone Cup (U-18 National Title) with Scott Gallagher Soccer Club (St. Louis, MO) in 2000. During his time at Blue Valley Northwest High School, Duffy also earned All-American nominations as both a Defender and a Goalkeeper.
Duffy holds a USSF National "C" License, as well as an NSCAA Regional Goalkeeping Diploma. Duffy graduated from Saint Mary's College in 2004 with a B. S. in Experimental Psychology and resides in Fresno with his fiancé, Carrie.
