FRESNO, Calif. - The men's golf season tees off with the first tournament of the season taking place in Reno, Nev. at the Wolfpack Classic on Oct. 5-6. The following week Fresno State travels to Fairfax, Calif. for the Cal Alister MacKenzie Invitational, where they placed in a tie for fourth place in 2007. Todd Angel finished in second place with 11-under par to lead Fresno State.
In November, the 'Dogs will head back to Stockton for the UOP invitational. At theis event last season, the Bulldogs took home a fall season best, third place finish.
The `Dogs start up their spring season in February and compete in three tournaments, starting with the Arizona Intercollegiate Feb. 1-2 at the Arizona National Golf Course. From Feb. 8-9, the Bulldogs will compete in the Farms Collegiate Invitational in San Diego, Calif. and in the final competition of the month, the John Burns Invitational on Feb. 17-19.
Fresno State will head back to the USC Invitational where they finished in a tie for seventh place out of a 13-team field in 2009. The field included perennial powerhouses such as USC, Stanford, UCLA and Washington. Grant Doverspike will also look to continue marking up the history books with amazing shots such the rare double-eagle he posted on the 8th hole at North Ranch Country Club.
After leaving Westlake, the `Dogs will return home for the 47th annual Fresno State Lexus Invitational and look to improve on last year's showing. Last season, Fresno State concluded in the 46th Annual Fresno Lexus Classic at Belmont Country Club with two runner-up finishes.
The 'Dogs compete in three other tournaments before heading to the Western Athletic conference Championship. The 20010 WAC championships are to be held on May 3-5 at the Rio Secco Golf course in Las Vegas, Nev.
At the 2009 WAC championship, the `Dogs finished in second and were just four strokes back of the leader. WAC player of the Year, Grant Doverspike will look to finish in the top 5 of the field for the fourth straight year.
The NCAA Regionals will be held May 20-22 and the site is to be determined. Lastly, the NCAA finals are schooled to be held at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. on June 1-5.
