Dogs Open 88th Season of College Football
Fresno State begins its 88th season playing college football this week by hosting a California college opponent, UC Davis, on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the Dogs have opened the season at Bulldog Stadium. Fresno State won all of those games by a combined score of 107-39, with wins over Weber State, Nevada and Sacramento State. The Dogs have not lost a season home opening game since 1996 and are 12-2 in Bulldog Stadium season openers at home.
About UC Davis
Led by long-time coach Bob Biggs, the Aggies come to Bulldog Stadium this week to embark on the most aggressive schedule in its schools history. In addition to playing at Fresno State, the Aggies will take on Boise State in a few weeks in Boise. Junior quarterback Greg Denham is coming off a terrific season on which he threw for more than 3,400 yards and 27 touchdowns. His favorite target, Chris Cater, returns after catching 69 passes for 768 yards and five touchdowns. Biggs enters his 17th season as head coach at his alma mater and owns a winning percentage of nearly 70 percent. Members of the Great West Conference, the Aggies were 5-7 overall last year and 2-1 in the league standings behind Cal Poly.
Against the Aggies
Fresno State and UC Davis played one another nearly every year between 1922 and 1938, but have not met on the gridiron since 1952. The Dogs own an all-time lead in the series 11-5-1.
