FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's soccer coach Brian Zwaschka released the 2009 soccer schedule. The defending Western Athletic Conference Tournament Champions travel all over California in preseason matches to prepare for the 2009 season.
"I am eager to undertake the challenges awaiting the team and staff in our first season together here at Fresno State," said Zwaschka. "Our pre-season exhibitions and non-conference schedule provide us with the ideal preparation for an assault on the WAC Championship and beyond."
The `Dogs open the season with exhibition games against the Storm and Fresno Pacific before heading down to southern California to face San Diego State (Aug. 21) and Long Beach State (Aug. 23). The Bulldogs finish out the month of August with their home opener against Oregon (Aug. 30).
The team plays in the UC Irvine tournament Sept. 4-6 and then returns home facing CSU Bakersfield in the Valley Cup match on Sept. 13 in Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs travel north continuing non-conference matches against UC Davis (Sept. 20) and Pacific (Sept. 18). The `Dogs conclude their non-conference schedule against Sacramento State (Sept. 27) and at Saint Mary's (Sept. 30).
Fresno State opens WAC play in Hawai'i on October 4 and heads to Boise, Idaho for the WAC Tournament in November. The Bulldogs have four league home games in October. The Aggies of New Mexico State come to town on Oct. 9 followed by Louisiana Tech on Oct. 11. The `Dogs host Boise State on Oct. 23 and Idaho on Oct. 25.
"Fresno State has yet to play its best soccer and I'm anticipating our knowledgeable supporters are going to have a special team to get behind," said Zwaschka.
