Bulldogs Underway At Golfweek Challenge

PRIMM, Nev. - The Fresno State women's golf team fought windy conditions to opened its season with a first-round 36-over 324 on Sunday and is in 17th place at Golfweek's Conference Challenge, which is being played at the par-72, 6,108-yard, Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.
The `Dogs are being paced by senior Lindi Covarrubias. Covarrubias posted a 7-over 79, which has her tied for 48th after 18 holes of play.
Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State has the individual lead with a 4-under 68. Oklahoma State has the team lead with a 7-over 295, good for a one-stroke lead over Chattanooga.
Junior Chlesea Czinski is tied for 57th after shooting 80 and sophomore Louisa Lies is tied for 73rd at 10-over. Senior Hali Coppin and rookie Shaylee Yano are in a group that is tied for 79th at 11-over par-83.
"It was our first round and everyone was a bit nervous," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore. "Tomorrow the butterflies will be gone and we should post lower scores in order to climb back up the leaderboard."
The 18-team field includes four teams that appeared in Golfweek's preseason poll, No. 12 Pepperdine, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 18 UNLV and No. 28 Cal.
The tournament continues with 18 holes on Monday with teams teeing off at 8:00 a.m. (PT) off of holes one and 10, and the tournament draws to a close on Tuesday.
