Dogs Begin Brutal Road Trip Stretch
Not many teams in the nation will undertake the travels of the Fresno State football team over the next month. In the next four games, the Dogs will play in four different time zones and log close to 15,000 miles. The journey begins this Saturday at Wisconsin, followed by a Friday night clash with preseason WAC favorite Boise State in Fresno, then a long road trip to Cincinnati before an even longer road trip to Hawaii. During the 2009 season, Fresno State will play in five of the six United State's time zones and travel over 23,000 miles.
Breakfast with the Bulldogs
In two of the next three games, Fresno State fans can time their morning meal with the kickoff of their favorite football team. The Dogs will play Wisconsin and Cincinnati at 9 a.m. PT. For the Bulldogs, that means waking up at 5 a.m. PT for their pregame breakfast for each of those games.
On Wisconsin
The Badgers received some votes in the preseason polls and opened the season with a 28-20 win over Northern Illinois last Saturday while winning their 12th straight season opening game. Coach Brett Bielema is in his fourth season at Wisconsin with a 29-11 overall record. John Clay, the team's top rusher in 2008, opened the season with two touchdowns, while quarterback Scott Tolzien threw for 257 yards and one score. Isaac Anderson is an explosive player on offense as he touched the ball four times against Northern Illinois and had 123 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard pass play.
Against the Badgers
It's been a short series but a memorable one for Bulldog fans. The Badgers own a 2-1 lead in the series which began in 2001, and all of the game have been close. The Dogs won in Madison in the first game 32-20 and then lost the following season 23-21 on a late UW field foal. Last season, the Badgers brought a No. 10 national ranking and beat the Bulldogs, who at the time were also ranked in the Top 25, 13-10 in front of a soldout crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
ESPN Loves the Dogs
Fresno State will make its 63rd national television appearance this decade when the Dogs play at Wisconsin on ESPN. At one stretch since late in the 2007 season, the Dogs made eight straight appearances on ESPN networks. Including the Wisconsin game, Fresno State will have played 13 of its last 18 games on ESPN's family of networks (ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2). Next week's game against Boise State will be on ESPN and the following week the Dogs and Cincinnati Bearcats will play on ESPN Regional. That game will be carried in the Fresno market on KAIL MY53, the television home of the Bulldogs.
