Soccer Heads to Idaho

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team ends the regular season on the road against Boise State on Friday, Oct. 29 and Idaho on Sunday, Oct. 31. This is the second year the `Dogs have finished the season on the road. Last year, the Bulldogs ended the season at San Jose losing to the Spartans, 2-1.Fresno State is battling for the final spot in the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
Against Boise State The Bulldogs lead the overall series against the Broncos 6-4-1. The last meeting between the teams was in the 2009 WAC Tournament and Boise State won, 2-1. The Broncos have a two-game winning streak heading into this weekend's match up.
About the Broncos Defending WAC Tournament Champions Boise State is in a three-way tie for first place with San Jose State and Utah State. The Broncos have two game win streak after beating Nevada and Idaho in overtime last weekend. BSU has an overall mark of 7-8-2 and 4-1-1 in conference. Shannon Saxton leads the team in goals with five. Goalkeeper Liz Ruiz has 101 saves and four shutouts.
Against Idaho The Bulldogs and Vandals meet for the sixth time in school history Sunday afternoon. The `Dogs haven't lost a game to Idaho and lead the series 5-0. The largest margin of victory over the Vandals was 3-0 in 2007.
About the Vandals Idaho checks into this weekend with an overall record of 13-5-0 and WAC mark of 4-2-0. The Vandals lost their last two matches 2-0 to Utah State and 1-0 to Boise State. Chelsea Small leads the goal count with 12 in 18 games. She also has four assists for a total of 28 points on the season. Goalkeeper Liz Boyden has six shutouts and 80 saves on teh year.
Bulldogs in Extra Minutes The Bulldogs have taken six games into extra minutes including a streak of three consecutive overtime matches. The `Dogs are 1-2-3 in overtime games, all have occurred this year. Fresno State earned a win over Texas State, a loss against UC Davis and San Jose State and tied UC Santa Barbara, Nevada and CSU Bakersfield.
`Dogs Defense Shines The Bulldog defense recorded their fifth shutout of the year against Utah State. Fresno State defense has dominated the WAC in recent years. Since 2006 the Bulldogs have recorded a shutout in 22 of 36 WAC games. In those 36 WAC games the `Dogs have allowed only 19 goals for goals against average of .52. In the last four years, Fresno State has compiled a WAC record of 23-9-4.
Duff No. 1 in Points Senior Nicole Duff is leading the way offensively for the Bulldogs in 2010. She leads the team in points with 13 on the year. The forward has recorded a team-high five goals and three assists. Duff has recorded a single game-high of three points twice this season.
"We Are Your Team" The Bulldogs head to Idaho to close out the 2010 WAC regular season. The `Dogs play Boise State on Oct. 29 and then Idaho on Oct. 31. The Bulldogs are battling for a spot in the 2010 WAC Tournament held in Ruston, La. on Nov. 4,5 and 7.
